Heather Walkover,
Cello
How old were you when you started playing your instrument?
“I started playing the cello at age 10 in my elementary school music program.”
Besides the Bakersfield Symphony, what else do you do for a living?
“I teach middle school orchestra, piano, and mariachi in Bakersfield, at Walter Stiern Middle School. I also teach cello at CSUB and serve on the board for the Kern County Music Educators Association.”
What do you enjoy most about playing with the BSO?
“I love playing quality music with so many other amazing musicians and being able to bring high-quality classical music concerts to the Bakersfield Community.”
What is one piece of advice you would give to an aspiring musician?
“As a music teacher, one of the best parts of the symphony is the BSO Next education program that provides an amazing experience for the youth in our community to attend concerts for free. Sponsoring me helps support the orchestra and allows it to continue to support the orchestra’s education outreach.”
