BSO NEXT invites students from across Kern County to experience the Symphony beyond the concert hall.
Through visits to local community and cultural destinations, shared meals, and live symphonic music, students discover new places, perspectives, and possibilities while building a lasting connection to the arts.

The BSO Urner Music Academy
Middle School and Up
The BSO Urner Music Academy creates new pathways for musicians to take the next step in their artistic journey. From students developing their skills to emerging performers and composers pursuing new opportunities, the Academy brings musicians closer to the Bakersfield Symphony and the professional music community.

Young People’s Concerts
Recommended: 1st-6th Grade
All ages of exceptional learners welcome!
Deaf and hard of hearing students encouraged!
Learning Materials ♩ Daytime Performances
$8 per person (ask your school about available funding!)
Young People’s Concerts are geared specifically toward elementary school students and are attended by schools throughout the county. Programs are engaging and interactive, and the Symphony provides quality lesson plans that teachers can utilize in the weeks leading up to the performance.
Kids Discover Music
Pre-K-6th Grade
Kids Discover Music sends a BSO quartet into schools to present a program to elementary school students. The program serves to expose students to live music, as well as educate students about the different instruments and the orchestra as a whole, and gives students a chance to interact with and ask questions of Symphony musicians.
Learning Materials
Pre-concert and post-concert learning materials are provided for BSO’s Young People’s Concerts and BSO NEXT education programs. Register your students to receive the materials directly!
