Debbie Ellis,

Violin I

How old were you when you started playing your instrument?

“I started playing the violin when I was 9. I was able to start learning through the music program at Panama Elementary, and am so grateful for that opportunity.”

Besides the Bakersfield Symphony, what else do you do for a living?

“I teach violin to students of all ages and freelance in orchestras all over California and beyond.”

What do you enjoy most about playing with the BSO?

“I grew up in Bakersfield, where I completed my elementary and high school education, and consider this my home orchestra. When I play here, it is like playing with my family.”

What is one piece of advice you would give to an aspiring musician?

“When someone commits to sponsoring my chair, it lets me know that they understand the value of supporting public access to the arts. And that would make me very happy.”

Fun Facts

“I learned horsemanship from the ground up and now enjoy hitting the trails with my beautiful mare named Esmerelda.”
