Music Director, Stilian Kirov Continues his Leadership with the Bakersfield Symphony Orchestra
Since 2015, when he first joined the Bakersfield Symphony Orchestra after a worldwide conductor search, Stilian Kirov has helped the BSO see tremendous growth in audience attendance, outreach programs, and community awareness. The BSO is pleased to announce that it will continue to thrive under Kirov’s leadership as music director through 2018, after signing a contract extension.
“The BSO is thrilled to continue its relationship with Maestro Kirov,” said BSO Executive Director Kari Heilman. “The orchestra has grown under his leadership and he has brought boundless energy and enthusiasm to our community.”
Added BSO Board of Directors Chairman Chris Hamilton: “Stilian Kirov’s enthusiasm for music and his ability to showcase our talented local orchestra has developed a strong bond between the BSO and the community, which is a big part of our mission.”
Kirov is now the music director of three prestigious music organizations: New Jersey’s Symphony in C, Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra and the Bakersfield Symphony Orchestra. He is a graduate of The Juilliard School conducting program, has won numerous awards and prizes and has conducted orchestras around the world. In fact, last year he debuted with the German National Orchestra at the historic Berlin Philharmonie.
“I am truly honored and excited to continue my musical journey with the BSO,” Kirov said. “Since we began our work together in 2015, the orchestra and I have grown together musically. The music we create and share with our community has been challenging and very rewarding. Our enthusiasm seems to be contagious, as we have seen our audiences increase and our student outreach programs reaching more students than ever before. The BSO is thriving and this is all thanks to our wonderful patrons and the great devotion from the musicians, administration, board and the whole BSO family. I am looking forward to creating more inspiration and fabulous music!”
