It is undeniably true that schools throughout our community depend on the Bakersfield Symphony Orchestra for music programs to fill gaps in the current system. Bring the full experience of The Bakersfield Symphony Orchestra to local students with a program designed to integrate musical concepts and activities into existing classroom curriculum. Kids Discover Music (KDM), previously know as Inspire the Desire for Music, brings BSO musicians directly into the classroom to allow children to experience a powerful introduction to the world of music. With KDM, students within our community have gained access to a rich musical experience and arts programs they are no longer receiving in schools due to budget cuts.

The Bakersfield Symphony Orchestra (BSO) has an exciting Young People’s Concert series (YPC’s) hosted at the Rabobank Theater. Elementary students, secondary students, and teachers from across Kern County have enjoyed our YPC’s for more than thirty years.

Through our partnerships with the Kern County Superintendent of Schools and the Bakersfield City School District we have inspired young people to have a lifetime love for music. The BSO performs three themed concerts each season which are specifically designed for young audiences and meet scholastic standards set by the State of California. These concerts are a perfect way to entertain and educate students at the same time, making learning fun!

Stage play by Tom Stoppard with music by Andre Previn. This unique and rarely performed piece follows 2 men in a Soviet “hospital”. One man believes himself to be a conductor and one believes he can speak out against the government. Which man is really insane? Political intrigue, imaginary musicians and friendship shape the world of this oddly funny and touching night of theatre and music. The cast comprises six actors, but also a chamber orchestra, which not only provides music throughout the play but also forms an essential part of the action.
