Kari H. Heilman
A Bakersfield native, Kari Heilman has been involved in the local arts scene for over ten years. Her love for the non-profit world and the arts started with the Arts Council of Kern. As a Program Manager, Kari worked with local visual artists to create murals, organized youth art classes, and supported many art exhibitions. In 2013, Kari switched to the performing arts when she joined the Bakersfield Symphony Orchestra (BSO). As the Business Operations Manager, she helped build the foundation that grew the BSO’s audience, community outreach, and educational programs. Kari became the BSO’s Executive Director in December of 2016.
Kari received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Cal State Northridge and is married to Scott Heilman, Division President (of the Central Valley Division) for Landscape Development Inc. Together, they have a four year old daughter who keeps them very busy.
Director of Marketing & Development
Gayle Tape joined the BSO’s Executive Team in 2017 as the Director of Marketing & Development. Gayle brings vast knowledge of Sales & Marketing as she spent the past twelve years as the Membership Director at Seven Oaks Country Club. Prior to that, Gayle served as the District Director for the Muscular Dystrophy Association, proving she is no new comer to the non-profit world. She grew up in the San Gabriel Valley and attended Pasadena City College & Cal State Fullerton, majoring in Communications. Thirty five years ago Gayle started her own production company where she coordinated special events and mall productions. Her passion for music, dance, pageantry, sports and youth programs has positioned her to be very active in leadership roles. She and her husband Bill have lived in Bakersfield since 1992, when they were relocated here from Ventura County. They have three adult children and four grandchildren.
Orchestra Operations Manager
Mary Moore joined the BSO as the Principal Clarinetist in the fall of 1959 and has never missed a concert since. In 2000, she became the Orchestra Operations Manager. Mary is a native to Bakersfield and attended Bakersfield High School and Cal State. When not at the BSO, Mary plays tennis and formed the Bakersfield Classicus Clarinet Quartet which performs locally. She is also a member of the summer Beale Band, the Bakersfield Winds, and attends the Humbolt Chamber Workshop annually. Mary is the mother of three children, four grand children and 3 great grand children.

Gabriel Adame was born and raised in Bakersfield. He attended Stockdale High school, Bakersfield College and is currently attending Cal State Bakersfield, pursuing a Business Administration degree. Gabriel has a strong background in customer service, sales/marketing, and joined the BSO in June of 2017.
Dr. Scott Dirkse
Scott Dirkse received his PhD in musicology from the University of California, Santa Barbara, an M.M. in piano pedagogy from the University of South Carolina, and a B.A. in piano performance from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. Scott is recognized as a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music by the Music Teachers National Association and is a recipient of the UCSB Excellence in Teaching Award. He has presented at the national conferences for the College Music Society, the Music Teachers National Association, the National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy, and Teaching Music History Conferences, and he has had his work published in Clavier Companion, American Music Teacher, the Journal of Music Theory Pedagogy, and the Journal of Music History Pedagogy. Scott currently teaches music at Bakersfield College and Stockdale High School (along with a few piano lessons on the side).
